This Person is Unavailable on Messenger

The “This Person is Unavailable on Messenger” notification is well-known to Messengers users. If you are having trouble sending a message on Messenger, you will see this message.

However, there is no single predictable event that will trigger this warning. We’ve included a list of potential causes for this problem and instructions for testing each one.

Finding Out Whether the User Has Blocked You

This Person is Unavailable on Messenger

To begin, you must determine whether or not the individual has blocked you. A “This Person is Unavailable on Messenger” message will appear if the other user has blocked you. If you want to know if you are blocked, try these steps:

  1. To start a conversation with someone on Facebook, you must first visit their profile by typing their name into the search bar.
  2. Try searching for the user’s profile using a different Facebook account if you’re having trouble locating it. A second option is to use a friend’s account to log in and verify.
  3. Now, if the profile appears on a friend’s Facebook or Messenger, you know the person has blocked you.

Verifying whether the User’s Facebook Account Has Been Disabled

The user’s Facebook and/or Messenger accounts may have been deactivated or deleted. It’s unclear whether the account has been completely removed or is temporarily disabled. But you may verify this by checking the several accounts listed below:

  1. Launch the Facebook app and look for the user’s profile you want to contact.
  2. If you’re still having trouble locating them, you may ask a buddy to perform the search for you. If the account can’t be accessed with any other identifier, it’s likely that the individual has either banned themselves or cancelled their account.
  3. If you want to double-check, try logging in with a few different identifiers. Try looking from a different account that is a friend of a friend of theirs.

Checking to See If the User Has Been Blocked

It’s possible that you accidentally blocked a buddy. You’ll get a notification in Messenger as well. The methods below will show you how to quickly and simply see if you have blocked someone:

  1. To see the “This Person is Unavailable on Messenger” notification, launch the Messenger app and navigate to the conversation where it appears.
  2. If you tap and hold the conversation, additional customization choices will appear. The user has not been blocked if the Block button is visible.
  3. If, however, you also see an Unblock option, you have blocked the person and must remove the block before you may send them a message. After selecting the Unblock button, you can resume chatting normally.
