2024 is another bumper year for video games, with several highly-anticipated titles making their way to our screens over the coming months. Here are a few games that you need to be excited for.
Rise of the Ronin
Rise of the Ronish is an action role-playing game set in Edo in the late 19th century. You play the role of a custom character during the Boshin War, which saw the Tokugawa Shogunate face an uprising from anti-shogun factions across Japan.
Rise of the Ronin will offer players a different gaming experience, as the vast array of weapons and abilities will quickly improve your gaming skills. With a massive open world and potentially endless quests, Rise of the Ronin is set to become one of your new favorite games.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Paper Mario is a beloved spin-off of the Super Mario franchise, and The Thousand-Year Door (TTYD) is the next installment in the series. Set in Rogueport in Mushroom City, The Thousand-Year Door was a smash hit when it was released in the early 2000s.
While there is no set release date yet, many think we will see TTYD sometime in the first half of 2024. It is also set to be one of the last major releases on the Switch before the release of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Tales of the Shire
Lord of the Rings (LOTR) games are far too rare for most fans’ liking, but 2024 is the year for a LOTR game with a difference. Tales of the Shire, developed by Weta Workshop, is a super-cozy role-playing game set in the home of the Hobbits.
While details are still very scarce, by the looks of the trailer, players can expect a LOTR version of Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley, but instead of collecting bells on your island or farming, you live your best Hobbit life exploring the town and countryside.
Princess Peach: Showtime!
Princess Peach: Showtime! is an upcoming action-adventure game for the Switch. It is the first game to feature Princess Peach as the main protagonist since the Super Princess Peach game in 2005.
Once again, details are still scarce, but from the Nintendo presentation, we know that Peach can transform in multiple versions, including Ninja Peach, Kung Fu Peach, and Detective Peach, with each transformation granting her unique abilities depending on the level.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a highly-anticipated sequel of the hit Capcom game released in 2012. The action role-playing game sees you take on the role of Arisen, a hero marked by a dragon they must defeat.
Players must explore a massive world, take on many quests, and defeat monsters, all while geopolitical conflict rages around them. Considering how huge Dragon’s Dogma was when it was released all those years ago, expectations are high for the sequel.
WWE 2K24
The WWE 2K series has not been anything to write home about over the past few years. However, the games have been taken to the next level recently and are getting closer to being the premier professional wrestling experience we have expected.
2K24 will hopefully continue this upward trend. With multiple editions and a potential plethora of play modes, 2K24 should be one of the best representations of pro wrestling we have seen in ages.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2
Coming out in September of this year, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is the fourth game in the series and the first game in almost 15 years. The game has had a long, challenging development period, but we will finally enjoy this incredible series again this year.
Due to political reasons and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where the developers are located, details have been scarce. However, considering how good the previous titles were and how long we have had to wait, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 will surely not disappoint.
Indiana Jones & the Great Circle
Fans of Indiana Jones have waited long enough for a modern Indi game, and it is finally happening. The Great Circle is an action-adventure game that draws from the original adventures and is set between The Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.
You take on the role of Indiana Jones, the adventurer himself, as he attempts to thwart various groups on a mission to harness the power of the Great Circle. Taking you across Rome, Egypt, Thailand, and the Himalayas, the Great Circle is the Indiana Jones you always knew you could be.
Black Myth: Wukong
Another Game with few details but a ton of excitement is Black Myth: Wukong. You take on the role of “the Destined One,” Sun Wukong, as you transform into a giant monster or flying monster and fight through an array of enemies.
As mentioned, details are incredibly scarce. However, sources say it should be a blockbuster hit and one of the first Chinese-made games to become mainstream in the West.
