When it comes to electronic music, Daft Punk is without peer. After 28 years of making music together, the Grammy-winning pioneers shocked the world by announcing their split. It’s impossible to sit still when watching the French pair play their songs while wearing helmets.
They broke the news to one other in an 8-minute video titled Epilogue. Daft Punk’s longtime spokesperson, Kathyrn Franzier, also verified the news to the AP. When it came to underground dance music, the robots were undisputed kings. Rapidly rising to the status of full-fledged pop stars, they eventually became a mysterious figure rarely seen in public.
Their place in music history has been permanently cemented, and they will always be remembered as one of the greatest live dance bands ever. After making house and techno music since the early 1990s, Daft Punk recently announced that they were splitting up. Separation papers have been filed between Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo.

A Brief Look Back
Back in the mid-1980s when they were both still in school, Thomas and Guy met in Paris, marking the beginning of their musical collaboration. They hit it off immediately and, along with their mutual buddy Laurent Brancowitz, established a band. Its owners gave it the name Darlin’. The band allegedly took influence from the Beach Boys.
The band dropped the single, but listeners weren’t into it. A “daft punky thrash” was how it was described. So long! After that, they changed their name to Daft Punk to reflect their new image. They worked really hard on electronic music after receiving negative feedback on their initial attempt. Soon. After Laurent’s departure, he started a new band he calls Phoenix.
The Original Discharge
Daft Punk’s debut single, titled “New Wave,” was released that same year. They released their first studio album, Homework, two years later. It ended up becoming one of the year’s most popular albums.
Discovery was their second album, released at the turn of the millennium in response to the massive success of their debut. Rolling Stone magazine included their hit “One more Time” on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
Random Access Memories (2013) was their final album. Get Lucky, the album’s breakout single, went on to win five Grammy Awards for the group. Random Access Memories won the Best Album Grammy the next year.
The Weeknd and Daft Punk have worked together on two songs: “I Feel it Coming” and “Starboy” (both from the album Starboy). They worked together on the soundtrack for the Disney film Tron.
